Apple TV Upgraded: The New Apple TV
March 9, 2012Don’t forget, Apple makes more than the iPad. They also make a tiny black box that they call “ Apple TV,” and it just got updated.
When Apple upgraded their new iPads from A5 processors to the A5X, they must’ve had some back stock of those older iPad 2 chips left over. Look for the A5 to add some speed to the 2012 edition of Apple’s pet set-top box project, Apple TV. The latest incarnation looks exactly like its 2010 predecessor, but it’s such small unit that you’ll probably leave it hidden in one of your entertainment center’s nooks and crannies anyway. What you will see is true high definition (1080p) content streamed in from the iTunes store (including titles you own, not just rent), iCloud, Netflix, Youtube and more.
If you’ve already got your content covered by way of an Xbox, Roku, PS3 or other media center, there are still some features that the Apple TV alone can deliver. AirPlay integration allows your iPhone or iPad to push content directly onto your TV, as long as you share a Wi-Fi network, so gather ‘round the TV for showing off photos and videos, or mirror your mobile device to take advantage of the big screen. It’ll only set you back $99.
