The Most Amazing Spider-Man iPhone & iPad Apps and Accessories
June 29, 2012On July 3rd, The Amazing Spider-Man will jump-start a familiar franchise by offering yet another take on the origin of the beloved web-slinging superhero. We’re celebrating Spidey by searching for the best iPhone & iPad apps and accessories to feature Peter Parker and friends (or enemies). Read on to see which iPhone & iPad apps and accessories we got our radioactive hands on.
The Amazing Spider-Man: An Origin Story ($3.99) – A great primer for those not yet familiar with this fan-favorite crime-fighter, The Amazing Spider-Man: An Origin Story is an interactive storybook with a young audience in mind. Stan Lee, Spidey’s original creator (and master of the comic book movie cameo), provides narration and the experience is punctuated by custom sound effects as well. Throw in a few mini-games that put you in control of the character and the whole thing really comes to life.
The Amazing Spider-Man AR (Free) – “Augmented Reality” apps are always a fun way to look into the future of how phones might function someday. The Amazing Spider-Man AR app is a bit gimmicky, but still fun at the price of “free.” The app allows you to point your phone camera at certain background images–found on the movie’s official website–to unlock animated scenes within your phone. Point this AR app at some skyscrapers, for instance, and watch Spider-Man swing into the frame. Neat!
The Amazing Spider-Man ($6.99) – The official game that ties in with the new film, The Amazing Spider-Man lets you play through the son-to-be-released Spidey Vs. the Lizard storyline. Climb, swing, and jump around a fully 3D version of Manhattan, including real-life areas like Central Park and Wall Street. And of course, while you’re slinging your web all over this open world environment there will be plenty of collectibles to scoop up and thugs to knock out.
Spider-Man: Total Mayhem ($6.99) – Because it’s not from the same exact universe at the movie, the iPhone and iPad game Spider-Man: Total Mayhem is able to set Spidey up against a wider variety of villains from the long history of comic books. Battle six different supervillains, including sandman, Rhino, Electro, Dr. Octopus, Green Goblin and Venom, through a dozen levels set across New York City. And when you’re done, you can set your sites on unlocking the black symbiotic Spider-Man suit for yourself and doing it all again with a new set of powers.
There are a variety of cool iPhone cases and decals featuring Spider-Man, so we’ve rounded up three of our favorites.
Amazing Spider-Man Cover Art Clip-Case ($20.35) – Lest we forget that Spider-Man was a comic book character before becoming a blockbuster movie and video game star, this case is wrapped in original art from the cover of Amazing Spider-Man issue #301. Drawn by famous artist Todd McFarlane, this iconic image of Spidey in mid-swing is about as dramatic as you can get for a plastic clip-on phone cover.
Spider Web Hard Case for iPhone 4 ($12.95) – Now you have the option of encasing your phone in webbing without it getting stuck to your hand. This spider-web patterned hard plastic shell is actually cut out, letting your phone show through between the strands.
Spider-Man Premium Hardshell Hybrid Case ($5.92) – For just under six bucks, this striking red case has not only a bit of Spidey’s cascading web-work, but also features an outline of the new movie’s spider logo as well as Spider-Man’s face. The eyes in the Spider-Man face are cut out, showing just a hint of the phone beneath and making this otherwise simple design just flashy enough to catch our eye. And for those of you on Team Venom, it even comes in black.
