Fashion for the Future – Following New York Fashion Week on iPhone and iPad

Fashion for the Future - Following New York Fashion Week on iPhone and iPadThis year, Fashion Week officially became futuristic. As designer Diane Von Furstenberg showed off her latest collection of designs, there was more on the runway than just the bright, exotic colors of her flowing lime and tangerine-colored dresses. Some models also took their lap through New York’s Lincoln Center wearing Google’s brand new interactive head-mounted displays (read: high tech camera glasses) called “Glass by Google.” Don’t worry–the actual products proved much sexier than their name, appearing in shades of white, blue, and orange and falling in line with von Fursterberg’s recent color blocking ways. This got us thinking about the intersection of high tech and high fashion, so we’ve rounded up the best ways to catch up on the designs from this year’s New York Fashion Week with the help of your trusty iPhone or iPad.

The Best Magazine Apps – Fashion Week has a lot of fans, but you can count on the professionals at Style.com (a Condé Nast publication) to get the some of the best access of the show, and to provide high quality coverage of all of the shows and happenings behind the scenes. Their free Style.com app will link you right into the scene, with access to a wide array of photos and reports from every collection, not to mention the parties after their shown.

You can’t show off haute couture in New York without getting the attention of the New York Times. Their free app, NYTimes The Collection features coverage accumulated in their newspaper, magazine, and blogs, and takes advantage of the great deal of work they’ve put into app development in order to display it all beautifully.

New York Magazine is also a top pick for Fashion Week coverage, which you can find in their dedicated free app, The Cut on the Runway.  You’ll find stacks of virtual photos to flip through, as well as unique commentary from their sites’ biggest personalities.

The Best Instagram Feeds – Once you’ve got your magazine-style coverage covered, it’s time to hit the streets of NYC. If you’re not actually in NYC, just hop on Instagram and follow these feeds from fashion insiders.

The top tags are #NYFashionWeek & #NYFW, and you’ll see themm all over Instagram. Each is worth a search to discover your famour photographers. To get you started, here are some of the most exciting feeds to far::

@cocorocha (Coco Rocha) – The top of every list involving fashion and social media, this model-turned-web master will take you backstage after she’s done walking the runway, as she did with Zac Posen’s collection, alongside Karolina Kurkova and Naomi Campbell.

@manrepeller (Leandra Medine) – Count on this fashion blogger to have seats so good, viewing her feed is as close to being there as you’re going to get. You could almost reach out and touch the runway as Tommy Hilfiger’s new looks went on display.

@evachen202 (Eva Chen) – Teen Vogue editor and obsessive instagrammer, this feed will take you behind the scenes, where you might catch make-up artist @MallyBeauty (Mally Roncal) at work before the @Tracy_Reece collection hit the spotlight.

@josheymonroe (Joshey Monroe) – If this aspiring designer’s sewing skills match his knack for photography, he’s worth keeping an eye on for sure. Watch his feed for more striking photos from the runways and streets of NYC.

@oscarprgirl (Oscar de la Renta) – Ok, this feed doesn’t belong to Mr. De la Renta himself, but is managed by the PR team at his famous fashion house. We’ll forgive the anonymity in exchange for shots like this, of Oscar and one of his most famous clients, Sarah Jessica Parker, heading in for a hug.

@chiaraferragni (Chiara Ferragni) – This fashion blogger and shoe designer has a huge following on Instagram, and deservedly so. She has access to all of the big shows, and looks the part too. Some of her own outfits get as much attention as her shots of the collections she gets to see, such as Herve Leger and @RebeccaMinkoff.
