GadgeTell visited Octa at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show and found that the Vacuum Dock + Whale Tail works well as an iPad stand.

Among all of the more popular items, the Vacuum Dock + WhaleTail is a diamond in the rough. Though they  only had a few minutes to play with our fun and functional iPad, e-reader, and tablet accessory, they found that it worked quite well.

Octa’s all-in-one iPad stand, handle and grip comes in three pieces: the Vacuum Dock, WhaleTail and Dome Cap. The Vacuum Dock adheres to the back an iPad, tablet, or e-reader using Octa’s patented vacuum suction technology. Simply place the Vacuum Dock against the back of your device, or non-porous case, and give it a few pumps. When attached properly, it can hold up to 60 pounds for a minimum of six hours without re-pumping.

For an easy iPad grip, use the Vacuum Dock with the Dome Cap, a rubber piece that covers the Vacuum Dock’s internal gears. The nice rounded shape is meant to sit perfectly in the human hand at rest. This is perfect for use with an e-reader like the Kindle or Kindle Fire.

Remove the Dome Cap and click on the WhaleTail to change your iPad grip into and iPad stand or handle. Set your iPad down on the table and adjust the WhaleTail to prop your device up at any angle, vertically or horizontally. Adjust the twin flukes for added support, something you’ll need if you’re using your tablet for typing. Want to use the WhaleTail as an iPad handle? Pick it up and bend the tail over your hand. The tail bends to fit the shape of your hand and the twin flukes wrap around your wrist for added support.

Keep your eyes peeled, Octa will be releasing a variety of tails throughout 2012, all of which will be completely interchangeable with the TabletTail system.
